Many of you probably still remember Hong Yi after her 31 Days of Creativity with Food project, when this young Malaysian artist would build an artwork a day using only the contents of her plate. Also known as Red, this artist really finds a way to turn ordinary every day objects into something pretty: now she’s back with a series of exotic birds, put together from various multicolored flower petals.
Red uses the flowers she picked in her own garden in Malaysia, and you can tell her improvement with every new upload on her Instagram account: the artist admitted that her very first attempt of a peacock looked more like a turkey, but the following birds would get more and more realistic! No wonder she calls herself and artist who “loves to paint, but not with a paintbrush” – the close resemblance of flower petals to actual bird feathers is surprising and really well utilized!
Master of Architecture from the University of Melbourne, Hong has already become an Internet hit with her previous works, including coffee stain portrait of Jay Chou or Zhang Yimou’s face made of 750 pairs of socks. Seriously, and some artists say they lack inspiration!
