An art deco underpass located in Birningham, Alabama gave pedestrians a spooky feeling. This once beautiful tunnel had become a dangerous and eerie place because of years of neglect. The city decided that the underpass, located in the heart of the city, needed to become loveable again. They hired public artist Bill FitzGibbons to encourage pedestrians to make use of the tunnel. FitzGibbons created the artwork LightRails: a computerized LED installation that turned this dark place into a rainbow fairytale pass through.
