I Painted 11 Album Covers On My Face For Record Store Day

I melted, smudged, gunned, contorted and painted my face to celebrate my love of vinyl for the Record Store Day.

After the success of last years Record Store Day face paints I decided to Paint myself all over again. This time It would be bigger, better and more challenging as I opened up my suggestions to the great republic of Facebook. Before I knew it I was agreeing to do 40 different album covers on my face. Of course this didn’t happen as I don’t live in a void and I had to try and fit doing this around my work. The faces were taking up to 8 hours to complete.

The hardest by far was Mike Oldfields – Tubular bells. Painting the straight lines of the bent silver bell over my face would only work If I continued to look straight into my handheld magnifying mirror. However Painting King Crimson and Peter Gabriel was an absolute joy as ther are both very painterly. In fact I barely used my brushes for King Crimson, I would just keep smudging it with my fingers.

I am both, a musician called Lone Taxidermist and a make up artist, so Record store Day seemed like a good way of merging both of my passions. One of the reasons why I love vinyl is because of its true long playing physical format. I decided to listen to each album in full from start to end over and over again until the face was complete. Every time the album finished I would have a glass of wine! But I was getting too drunk especially after Human League!
