French photographer Julien Coquentin has come up with a unique way to document street art – by interacting with it. His Please Draw Me a Wall series pictures various models who are imaginatively and playfully interacting with colorful street art pieces.
With a few clever exceptions, street art is often bound by its 2D nature. The people Coquentin places, however, give the street art images a 3D life – the fish look like they are clustering towards the fisherman’s hook, the face on the wall looks like the head of a passed-out drunk, and the man with the inner tube looks like he has just stepped out of the mountain lake behind him. The end result gives the already-vibrant street art new life.
After seeing this series, it makes me wonder about what kind of playful pairings could be made with the street art that I see in my neighborhood every day.
