The central Cathedral Square in Vilnius was ablaze with a sea of candles on Sunday to commemorate more than16,000 people who have died in road accidents in Lithuania since 1990. One candle was lit for every person killed.
The event was part of the international World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, an international event held to acknowledge those lost to roadside accidents and to raise awareness about various traffic regulation and safety issues.
Fortunately, the rate of road fatalities in Lithuania is dropping.
