This is a true fact and drinking tea is part of the British traditions. But nobody can answer the question why is drinking tea such a common habit. Of course, there are legends that the tradition started from one of the Duchess of Bedford, Anna Maria who found out that drinking tea between lunch and dinner was very refreshing. She asked her friends to join her for a tea every afternoon and that’s how this became very popular social event. No one knows whether this is true or not. And you shouldn’t worry that having a cup of coffee is forbidden. But if a Briton offers you a tea, you won’t regret it trying.

Interesting Fact: Afternoon tea is also called “low tea” because of the low tables on which Britons drink their tea.

According to Independent, if this had been an Olympic sport, Britons would have won it. Nobody can say what the main reason for this is but it is probably the fact that British people are very polite. Some people see the beginning of the British queues in the industrial revolution. No matter what the actual reasons are Britons don’t take someone’s turn and you’d better don’t do it, either. You will leave very bad impression.

British people are very reserved.

And they claim that this is due to their shyness. Unlike the Americans who are always welcomed in their neighbours’ homes, British people do not say hello to their neighbours sometimes. And if you stop by to say hi without being invited, they will think that you try to sneak in ther home. Visiting UK means that you will hear the phrase “How are you?” a lot of times. It is good to remember that nobody’s asking how do you really feel. It is just a polite expression for “Hello” and that’s all. The answer always should be: “Fine, thank you!”.

Britons love to be ironic.

And if you haven’t watched “The Office”, then you probably have had a look on “Mr. Bean”. It is freaking funny, isn’t it? Most visitors of the United Kingdom are usually stressed by the English humor in the beginning. But the truth is that most foreigners are crazy about British jokes and they enjoy them, once they get used to the irony. That is why I recommend that you should be prepared for a lot of fun.

Britons are not do-it-yourselfers.

British people do not prefer to handle any home tasks by themselves. If there is something dirty, the cleaner will deal with it. If a pipe has burst, they call the plumber. That is why, if you happen to be in a room and the light bulb burst out, do not try to change it yourself. A typical Briton won’t let you do that but they will call a handyman.

These are the 4 typical characteristics of Britons and when you are prepared what to expect, you are going to have great time in the Great Britain. Your amazing holiday is more than guaranteed. And don’t forget to try the English tea, it is really good.
