One of the most beautiful things about design is that it solves real problems. Lift Labs, a team that understand the difficulties of living with Parkinson’s disease, has invented a spoon that cancels out hand tremor motions.

The Liftware spoon uses the fundamentals of physics to achieve their end result. A microchip detects the direction and force of the user’s tremors and commands the spoon to move in the opposite direction – effectively canceling out the movement. Because eating is a daily and sometimes intimate task, the improved experience dramatically increases the user’s sense of dignity.

The metal part of the spoon can be detached from the handle for washing while the handle is charged in a dock. The battery is designed for several meals. This product differs from current alternatives such as braces and straps that force the users’ hands to stay still, which could cause even more loss of dignity.
