Car Poolers Of Mexico

For the labours and workers in Monterrey, Mexico getting to work usually involves carpooling. Nothing unusual there you might think, yet their journey to work is anything but conventional.

Rather than sitting in the passenger seat in absolute comfort, flatbed trucks drive countless Mexican workers to the jobs in the back of the vehicle itself. Sometimes they are able to lie down flat, sometimes they find themselves cramped together – but regardless of the weather conditions, that’s their routine.

None of this would be known if it weren’t for the keen eye and photographic work of Monterrey local Alejandro Cartagena. Though his photography, we’re able to see and appreciate the daily grind of these hardworking men, whose lifestyles and struggles are often ignored. Alejandro has called the series ‘The Car Poolers in Mexico‘ and it justifiably won him an International Street Photography Award.
