Self-taught photographer Eric Hennig – known in some circles as Victor Vague – creates gorgeous wet-plate collodion photographs using 19th century techniques and equipment. His anachronistic portraits command the viewer’s attention and demand a closer look, fairly drawing out the very soul of his subjects and creating a haunting image seemingly transported from another era.
The collodion process, which was developed in the 1850s, involved covering a glass plate in a gel solution, submerging it in a silver nitrate solution, and then exposing it to light. This process creates the eerie and dark pictures that we recognize from the Victorian era and which we see in Vague’s work.
Vague is also co-owner and operator of VeraVague.etsy.com, where he and his partner, Anastasia, sell antique and vintage clothing, with a particular focus in Victorian, Edwardian, Deco and Flapper periods.
