Associated Press photographer Muhammed Muheisen shakes up our everyday life with this striking series of portraits of wide-eyed and dirt-poor Afghan children.
These Afghan child refugees are among 1.6 million Afghans living in poverty in the slums on the outskirts of Islamabad, Pakistan. Hundreds of thousands of people have fled to Pakistan to escape the deadly wars, conflicts and violence in Afghanistan.
Hopefully, this heartbreaking series of photos will raise awareness about the untold civilian impact of the conflict in the Middle East.
