Patrik Svensson describes himself shortly: Illustrator. Retired tram driver. But even these four words create a sense of mystery around him – just like his works which are simple and clear in design but always carry a symbolic connotation unraveling through visual puns and associations.
Illustrating since he was 13, Patrik is mostly known for his minimalist typography movie posters and book covers. Now he released a series of new works and wanted to share them with the fans. Check out his beautiful illustrations and some of inspirational thoughts below.

Golfer
I think the emotion of being inspired is one of the sweetest and most mysterious things life has to offer. I’m not sure it’s a good idea to analyze too much but rather just let it be what it is. But I guess it stems from all things I see and feel, unexpected events in the everyday life. Mistakes, flaws.
Borderless Economy
I’ve been collecting memories since I was very young. This is something I highly recommend—collect memories like a street cleaner collects garbage. Every now and then you’ll find an extra nice cigarette butt that you can keep in your pocket instead of throwing it in the plastic bag. Then one day when your hand reaches for that cigarette butt you’ll find that it has turned into a little diamond.
End Of the World
I really hope my work appeals to a wide audience. Most e-mails from strangers are design students asking for advice and such, but every now and then I get a note from a 45 plus mom digging what I do, and I love that range. I’m very keen on getting to know the people who like what I do—being a freelancer does get a little lonely from time to time, you know.
Narcissism and Social Media
I believe in two-way communication, and often try to involve the viewer in my design. Even if a picture is simple and flat I want there to be more to discover if you just take the time to study it a little closer.
What Does Love Smell Like?
One of the benefits from working with current events (political/social/environmental matters etc.) is that you learn a lot and get a feeling of being part of a universal society. I enjoy the variation of working on commissions where I am the middleman between a sender and a receiver and personal, sometimes silly projects for the sake of the fun only.
