2547 children were saved after the disastrous Chernobyl events. Thanks to Rabbi Yossi Raichik and his charitable work, these same children were given a better life. To acknowledge Raichik’s selfless and kind deeds, an acclaimed pop culture artist David Kracov created a magnificent metal sculpture. Titled “The Book of Life“, it is a testimony to the exceptional man that Rabbi Yossi Raichik is.

Book of Life” is a handmade elaborate sculpture of colorful butterflies, bursting from the pages of a book. Despite being constructed from metal, the sculpture is very heartwarming and somewhat charming. Half a meter tall butterfly mayhem has a very concrete meaning – every single butterfly symbolizes the 2547 children that have been saved from Chernobyl’s disaster. Additionally, the metallic pages of the book are filled with words of those who were touched by Rabbi Yossi Raichik and his kindness.

Much like a butterfly, a child’s live is very fragile. Kracov’s fairy-like construction and details reflect childhood’s innocence, fragility and the need to be nurtured and cared after. It is an ideal way to recognize and celebrate the good that has been done to help the Chernobyl’s escapee children.
